Day 34 of the Iran war brought the conflict directly to Tehran’s diplomatic quarter. Israeli strikes targeted the former US embassy compound while Houthis attacked commercial shipping.

The compound housed American diplomats until 1979. It has served as a Guard training facility since 1981.

The Embassy Strike

Israeli aircraft struck the former US embassy compound in Tehran at 3:47 AM local time. Iranian state media reported the attack targeted the compound’s eastern wing, according to Press TV.

Intelligence sources indicated the facility stored weapons and communications equipment. No casualties were reported.

Iran’s Defense Ministry called the attack “a violation of international law,” Press TV reported. The Defense Ministry statement did not mention the compound’s current military use.

Israeli officials declined to comment on the operation. Defense Minister Israel Katz said Israel would “respond to Iranian aggression at times and places of our choosing,” in remarks to the Knesset Defense Committee. The Israeli military said it struck “Iranian targets that threaten Israeli security,” without confirming the specific location, according to The Times of Israel.

Houthis Resume Attacks

Houthis attacked two commercial vessels in the Red Sea within six hours. The attacks contradicted coalition claims about degraded Houthi capabilities.

The first target was a Panamanian-flagged container ship carrying electronics from Singapore to Rotterdam. Houthis fired two missiles at 11:23 AM, causing minor damage, Reuters reported.

The second attack targeted a Greek oil tanker heading toward the Suez Canal. The ship reported missile impacts on its port side but continued under naval escort, Reuters reported.

Coalition forces launched three weeks of strikes on Houthi positions in Yemen. The Pentagon claimed 75% of Houthi missile capabilities were destroyed. Yet attacks continue at similar frequency.

Trump’s Response Strategy

Trump prepared an address on the Iran conflict as gas prices reached $4.89 per gallon. The speech was scheduled for 8 PM Eastern.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune met with Trump twice in the past week. White House sources said the discussions focused on congressional authorization and coalition funding, Politico reported.

Republican senators expressed frustration over the war’s duration. Some questioned the lack of clear objectives after five weeks of conflict, sources told Politico.

Iran’s nuclear facilities remained untouched. Oil exports continued through alternative routes despite sanctions. Both sides maintained military pressure without decisive strategic gains.
